My good friend Tom White is having a solo exhibition at Salvage Vanguard Theatre. The opening reception is this Saturday at 5pm and open to the public. The show will feature Tom’s new line of “process paintings” which he first invented last year and has been perfecting over time. As I understand the process, Tom takes a sheet of heavy tissue paper, crinkles it and sprays it with some type of enamel. Then he adheres it to the surface, be it wood, canvas or whatever. He then paints it with acrylic. The mix of enamel, adhesive and acrylic paint bonds together to create a solid substrate. The final piece is unique in its variation of color and topography. I’ve never seen anything like it!
Tom told me he will have 18 pieces at the show. I am really proud of him for developing this exciting new style of painting. The Austin Chronicle has recognized his work and even recommending his art opening on the same level of the West Austin Studio Tour. Go Tom!!!
Here is a photo of one of the paintings he did in this style. Isn’t it great?

Hope to see you this Saturday at the opening!
