The city of West lake Hills is a relatively wealthy suburb of Austin, located on the west side of Austin on the edge of the Hill Country. The city developed rapidly in the 1970s and 1980s with many sprawling luxury homes set in the hills on the south side of the Colorado River.
West Lake Hills is the only city completely within the Eanes Independent School District. The Eanes Independent School District is one of the top districts within Texas and has won many awards for excellence in education. In addition to the area's public school district, several private schools are also situated within the city, including St. Stephen's Episcopal School, one of the most acclaimed college preparatory schools in the state.
